• My new department now had 12 high-powered developers  (4 became managers)
• Designed and directed development of the APS-100, essentially a PostScript version of the AGI incorporating an Intel 80486, EISA, X-Windows/Motif, and Apple Ethertalk networking
• APS-100 product spearheaded over 50% of sales during its time - still in use
• Spawned industry-wide product arena known as OPI Servers
• Initiated port of product to Windows NT

Dec. 1987 :: Senior Engineering Specialist  (aka Sr Systems Programmer)
• Designed new product line - the Autologic Graphics Integrator - became lead $$ product
• As a Graphics/Print Server it  integrates existing Hardware lines into various customer systems and enabled full-page production (no cut and paste) for many newspapers
• 80x86 based 14-slot ISA Passive Backplane system running Interactive UNIX.
• Wrote prototype code, drivers for SCSI and proprietary boards, TIFF converter, input scanner, menu system, utils, etc.

• Designed and implemented a modem controller on proprietary hardware
• Product enables remote location, control, and data acquisition of/from multiple security systems

Jan. 86 :: Vice President, Engineering
• Corporate Officer,  budget of $2.8m, Company became profitable from August '86 on..
• Restructured ineffective department (40+) into productive organization by removing middle management, sorting personnel by attention span, then reorganizing into project groups
• Integrated the new product line architecture I had designed as Manager (next page)
• Phase 1 product replaced 14 products, simplifying sales, manufacture, & support
• Wrote a new Real Time Kernel for Z-80 based controllers (hid in office for 2 weeks)
• Significantly reduced Engineering related Accounts Receivable
• Involved in business acquisitions (purchase & sales) and company presentations

July 85 :: Manager, New Product Development
• Hired by ex-Wordplex VP R&D to build a new Product Architecture & Department
• Added DBMS, networking, MS-DOS i/face to VRTX Kernel (for comm board)
• Designed 80188 based intelligent communications board for IBM-PC

Wordplex Corp. - Westlake CA       Wordplex was a $50m Word Processing Vendor - based in the UK

• Jan. 83 :: Chief Software Engineer, R&D Systems Software
• Managed group of  8 developers in R&D (OS) group
• I was a programmer in the schedule, as well as manager, during this time
• Wrote distributed Print and Comm services managers, format, back-up, etc.
• Produced Distributed Product, 100+ workstations, using my OS (Gemini)
• Z-80, Z-8000 systems, mostly Assembler, some PL/Z

July 80 :: Systems Programmer, R & D Systems Software
• Co-Designed and Implemented multi-tasking/-processor, networking Operating System
• Built the File Management System, (basic unit was a B-tree)
• Designed all 7-layers of Network System - HDLC through NFS-like
• Transaction based Transport and App layer semantics simplified File Sharing
• Wrote drivers for: SMD, SCSI, 8251, SIO, PAL State Machine

• '97  Netscape Java Champion - invited by Netscape to be their first Java Champion, monitored Developer's Java Newsgroup - wrote FAQ (included on their development CDs)
• '95  Real-Time Video - wrote User Interface for Remote Control reconnaissance prototype - heads-up display using TrueVision video board - wrote class library to draw heads-up display over video with standard MFC calls
• '93  ANSI Standard PIL - helped organize and participated in the development of the Publishing Interface Language,  now an ANSI standard - co-members: IBM, Kodak, Quark, Atex, ...
